Kinja'd!!!

ITS GOT THE WHEELS AND MY MOM LIKES IT AND IT’S CHEAP AND IT MIGHT HAPPEN GOODBYE TRAILBLAZER

OK, for those who want to know what is actually going on, let me explain. We have this God-awful 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer, which I hate very much. Mostly because it’s terrible. Anyway, I’ve been nagging my mother to sell it for a long time now, and she has fallen in love with this ‘96 XJ Cherokee County, with 192,000 miles.

Other than some fading paint on the hood, and a very small rip in the driver’s seat, it is in great shape. Best of all, it’s $2,600.

It probably will not happen, but I cannot be pessimistic, either.

I’ve noticed that my profile has become filled with Jeeps, and I’ll change that soon .

So you want her to get rid of the trailblazer for an SUV that's 7 years older and probably in worse condition. What?

That price is a bit optimistic

With the exception of (maybe) stock offroad capability and aftermarket options, these are pretty much worse in every way. EXCEPT maybe the trans, maybe.

I think the transmissions in these are about as bad as the 4L60.

They’re about on par with the 4L60 in terms of being made of balsa wood.

It's much cooler. My mom likes it. It's not supposed to be a DD, just a fun, cheap SUV to mess around with.

This is on the low end for XJ’s in Raleigh.

The why not just keep the trailblazer instead of going through the hassle of buying this then dealing with 90s Chrysler electronics?

Low end for prices in Raleigh. The XJ market is insane here.

Ford and Honda early 2000s 5-speeds I’d say. My ‘94 Safari still has the original 4L60 21 years and 150k later.

Impressive, the 162k mile 4L60 mill in our unit violently shifts gears and lurches forwards rather than accelerating. But other than that, it's alright.

Any thing’s fun if you try hard enough! I can’t even count how many times my 4800lb hunk of 160 horsepower mommy-mobile made me giggle.

Good, surprisingly good. Just rolled 176k. So many new parts coming in the next month or so too.

XJs are awesome! A close friend of mine has one and I love helping him work on it. He got his with 180K on it for around $2000. Unless this thing is minty (look for rust/bondo on the rockers and the floors - they rot out) I’d say CP if you can’t get the seller down to around 2K. These are awesome cars though! Comfy, torquey, easy to work on, dirt cheap parts, and a massive aftermarket.

Yeah these are wonderful cars, but they can have strange electrical issues that trigger a permanent CEL. My friend’s XJ has a strange transmission sensor issue we can’t resolve, so he can’t pass inspection...

Depending on the year, IIRC. Some years were bad, and some years weren’t. At least I believe that was the case.

There was a Boston Green E36 M3 for sale at a super shady dealer here for $2,995. 245,000 miles with a stick. Interior was in shambles.

My friend just picked one up with less mileage and 4wd for $1k running and driving. Seems a bit high for one with that high of mileage.

He had it as a lease for only a few years, and we had a’91 Cherokee Limited simultaneously, and an ‘87 Wagoneer Limited before then. The ‘95 Country didn’t have a problem IIRC, but the ‘87 and ‘91 both had engine fires (all 3 had the 4.0 I6 “Hi-Output”). The interiors held up OK for being family vehicles, though the Limited had leather and the Country had cloth; I remember my dad hitting the roof (metaphorically) when I spilled a white soda in the back seat, but that made sense as it was a lease.

I like that colour scheme!

Let us know if you find it to e a step up. I had an XJ (bought new) for like 12 years, in its favour I hooned it like crazy and couldn’t beat it to death.

Replaced it with a Trailblazer, new ‘06, 10 years ago, haven’t been able to beat that to death either.

I like the TB better in every way than the XJ other than being slightly larger and heavier, and also there isn’t much you can do in the way of aftermarket stuff. Although I did lift mine 2 inches and put on bigger and wider tires.

Enjoy the new ride!

It has since sold, so we're passing on it. And our TrailBlazer is 2WD, so we didn't see a point to lifting it, especially in NC.
